Hi. I bought my first classic road bike yesterday, a Peugeot Bretagne. Lovely condition with minimal rusting (two small spots) and all original parts including seat post (apart from Brooks saddle and bar tape which have been added at some point and new schwalbe marathon tyres).

Anyway, I can not find any info on the model and wondered if anyone was knowledgeable on it.

Here is what I know:
Reynolds 501 frame.
Stronglight tripple (52/40/30) upfront.
5 speed (14-28) freewheel on the rear on Malliard hubs.
120mm spacing inbetween dropouts.
Colour is burgundy (almost metallic) with orange and yellow diagonal stripes (one on top tube and one on seat tube).
Chrome fork.
Decal style head badge.
Cantilever brakes.

Will get a picture as soon as I can.

Thanks guys.

the other way to held date is looking at the hubs because they should be date stamped if from that era with 2 sets of 2 digits one set being the week no and the other the year ie 24 is week no 24 - 88 is is 1988

there might also be a white sticker around the bottom bracket area which should have the model number ie py10 and then a load of digits

Front hub says 12 86 and rear says 22 86 so 1986 it is. There is a white sticker at bottom of the seat tube but no model number, just a conforms to British standards made in France notice. Will post pictures tonight. The more I look at it, the more that Bretagne sticker on the top tube looks like it was not originally there.

normally the other sticker is on the underside of bb or on the left hand lower stay .

i think the uk importers added model names hence why they look different to the rest of the decals

As promised, here is a picture.

Any idea of model would be appreciated. If you need more pics, just ask.

Oh and sorry if the spd pedals offend anyone. I can't get on with toe clips so took the original weinmann ones off for now.
I have just taken the pedals and clips (SR Quills with christophes) off my 80s Road bike and put on spds but I have done it because I can't find any 'proper' cleated shoes to replace my originals which have just started to crack on the sole. Riding without any sort of cleat is not an option. So in my opinion spds are like satellite tv you can't completely live in the past somethings have to be updated.

Go for your spds and enjoy!!
