I am a newbie to Audax and I apologise in advance if this is a little long winded or confusing.

I have recently joined the Audax UK club, although I live in Denmark. That is as strange as it gets :o)

The reason that I have joined the Audax UK club instead of the Audax Randonneurs Danemark Klub is for 2 reasons.

1. The danish klub is based on another island to where I live and is quite a distance away.

2. My Danish language skills are not that hot.

Hopefully by joining the Audax UK club I will be able to arrange some of my own PERMANENT rides in order to qualify for P-B-P next year. By being a member of the Audax UK Club, I am eligible to make qualifying rides in Denmark, Germany, Holland etc.

The advice I really need is an IDIOTS Guide to setting up PERMANENT rides which can be ratified by Audax UK.

In the past I have set up similar rides for motorcycles using GPS tracks and control points where cards need to be stamped or reciepts from shops, banks, petrol stations needed to be collected to show that you had followed the route.

I am assuming that a PERMANENT is arranged on very similar lines, but I really do not know.

I would be very much obliged for any advice which points me in the right direction. I have sent an e-mail to Audax UK and asked the same question and am hoping that I can utilise these cold winter nights by making some exciting plans.

Thank you in advance.

Steve

Go on the site http://yacf.co.uk/forum/index.php - you may well get your answers just by nosing around as most of the DIY organisers hang out there. I don't know what an overseas member of AUK does to get rides accepted. Within the UK you do it through your regional organisers based on where you live.

Definitely go to YACF.

I fear that permanents don't count towards PBP qualification.
There was a recent thread (on YACF) started by a north sea oil worker, who had similar issues to you, which may shed some light.

Permanents don't count as qualifiers. You have to ride calender events. These can be in any country or several countries. The AUK calendar lists all qualifiers in the UK. Look for '[PBP]' in the listing. For other European countries check the national audax association listings or go to ACP's list of all the qualifiers, here.

Thank you for those replies and you are correct, Permanents do not count towards P-B-P.

Those rides listed on the Audax Uk calendar are the ones that do count and so I will just have to travel to get the rides in.

Thanks again.

You might also want to bear in mind the northern German options for PBP qualification? I've not dealt with those organisers for that end of Germany, but the pair that deal with North & South Bavaria have been helpful. No organisation entry fees, just pay for the events - the major downside being the shortage of events! (The minor downside is that they only seem to give out routesheets at the beginning of their events, but the 200 I attempted in South Bavaria this year had the best route sheet I've ever seen! So only a minor downside IMHO.)

If you should happen to learn anything useful about doing DIY permanents through Audax UK whilst living on the "wrong side" of the English Channel then do feel free to share! Hint! Hint!
