Riding back from the shops a few months ago, I passed a rider on a DP (not that I knew what it was) and had to about turn and chase after him to chat and admire. His was a few years old but pristine, and had 8sp hub gears. Design does avoid large tubing which, in the days of steel, had advantages, particularly weight (eg 9kg for a bike in 1899).
