Pedals won't come off - help .... ?

Found in the Yorkshire hills ...
I'm trying to fit my new clipless pedals. However, the old pedals won't come off! They appear to have been tightened very well by ... erm ... me :shy:

Any ideas please. And yes, I'm trying to remove them the correct way.

Note: they're now removed. Thanks for the advice. And yes, grease was used originally, more on the replacements.

Crack em off with a scaffold pipe

Edit. use grease this time if not before

I think pedals can self tighten which is why one is a LH thread. I don't tighten mine more than just nipping them up. Warning, be careful that you don't slip and end up "punching" the chainwheel.

Exactly right. It's only a small effect, but it's cumulative.
