Hi All,
Am I right in thinking that pedals are interchangable between bike types? So for example I currently have a hybrid, which I'm considering getting clip in pedals for. If I move to a road bike later I'll just be able to refit the new pedals to that?

Yep.

Assuming they both take standard 15mm threaded pedals. IIRC there was another standard size (9/16") on older bikes. No idea when this standard when out though...

Yes you are correct. However, bear in mind that different pedal systems are earier to walk in. Commonly, SPDs are favoured by folk who want to walk in their shoes, as the smallish cleats can be recessed in the soles. Look pedals on the other hand, have big plastic triangles on the bottom that are a pain in the a to walk on, even with rubber covers.

Just remember that if you get spd pedals for the current bike then you might want to change to spd -sl or look's for the road bike - as they offer better performance whilst riding.

And you should look (no pun intended) at shoes that accommodate the spd system and the triangular SL/Look systems.

Other pedal types (e.g. Frog Speedplay pedals) are also fitted to recessed soles for ease of walking. Designed for off road, but can be used for road bike users who do a lot of walking (e.g. commuters, touring, etc. )
