I just abtained a cyclo cross type bike.....to use alongside my mountain bike
a Specialized Enduro....for more road work and a bit of gentle off road.

I Dont consider myself a hardened cyclist I go out 3 times a week
mainly cyclepaths tracks and road.. about 12-15 miles a trip...and I have never got on with clip pedals
so have large flat platforms on the Mountain bike. Have size 13 feet
so its fine for me.

I just dont know what to do about the kontour cyclo cross bike.....apart from take the useless strappy pedals OFF.....they are horrible to get into
and are totally uncomfortable. I also dont like the feeling of my feet
clamped in place.

Question: I see that pedals come in two thread sizes..........which am I likely to have on my bike?

And given I dont have cycling shoes...........and the pedals and shoes are going to cost me quite a bit.are there such a thing as quality flat pedals.?

I know that flats are not as efficient.........and perhaps I am just going to have to try clipless........ but I am happy with flats on my mountain bike...so know no different.

Im doing all this to help me loose weight..so working harder is not a bad thing ?

Thoughts please.

Your pedals are likely to have the threaded type.
The right pedal is the usual thread, IE left loosy.
But the left pedal is the other way.

Think of it this way, as you look at the pedal, the way the cranks go to move the bike forward is the way you turn the pedal axle to tighten it up.
To undo the pedal, you turn the pedal axle the way in which you would back pedal.

If that makes sence.

If your riding on the road, go for SPD-SL, if your off road go for SPD.
Much better, and they really arent hard to get used to.
