I have to admit that I always though a pedal was a pedal. It seems though that many standard pedals fitted to new bikes get a lot of flack. So just what is the best make/style of pedal for commuting. I really want to avoid cleats, as I do walk a fair bit off the bike. I've found that cheapish squash trainers are pretty ideal for cycling in (with overshoes on standby) and I'm perfectly happy riding with toe clips/straps.

I find these really comfortable with toeclips & straps. The unfussy design is easy to keep clean and they're not too expensive neither.

Cycling in hard soles will make a noticeable difference. Sketchers do some good hard rubber soled trainers.
