Pedal fitting types

When I bought my Yeti Arc second hand I told the owner he could keep the SPD pedals as I'd be using flats. I don't fancy being clipped in when I'm slipping Ned sliding around.

Anyway, when he removed them he used a hex key on the inner side of the pedal rather than a spanner to unscrew. I can't find any info on what type of fitting that is ?

Some use hex some use normal spanner, they use the same thread.

^This. The entry SPD-SL's on my commuter are a spanner fitting, the DA SPD-SL's on my CAAD are a hex key fitting. Both same thread and interchangeable with all cranks
