Do you wear a peak on your helmet, as supplied in the box, or not? It seems to be a MTB thing, but I'm a (very) confirmed roadie and yet always wear the peak; it helps keep the sun out of my eyes in conjunction with sunglasses, and helps keep the rain out of them too. yet I get very strange looks from some other roadies.

So, roadies, peak or no peak? If you do - any particular reason? If you don't - what's your reasoning (apart from not wanting to look naff)?

(P.S. I thought about putting this in the 'helmet debates' section, but it wouldn't let me post there for some reason - so it's here).

Cheers all.

i didn't - only because my peak was a bit mis-coloured for the helmet - so i didn't put it on - i then sat on it and broke it to realise the yellow film to keep it nice, was still on it (hence the mis-matched colour!)! - but on my old helmet i love the peak coz if you didn't put your glasses on it still gave you some protection

No peaks! They look naff and reduce your visibility. Cool shades and road helmets for me... even offroad

I spend 95% of my riding time on my road bike. I use a peak year round; in the summer it gives a bit of shade without needing tinted lenses; in the dark i can dip my head to block out light from oncoming bright car headlights to preserve my night vision and in the rain my glasses get a little bit of shelter. I don't like how the peak looks but they do have their advantages...

If I'm on the town bike I sometimes wear a peak, it reduces the amount of spray on my glasses. I don't like one on a road bike though, being less upright I used to get a sore neck constantly lifting my head enough to see. I don't actually know where my peak is these days, I tend to wear a cycling cap to protect the glasses these days. I prefer to have nothing though that blocks my visibility.

I wear a ridiculously expensive Yakkay helmet which has a cover with a peak and my other cover for it makes my helmet look like a fedora. Sad but true.

Only time I ever used a helmet was for downhill, and until I got a full face I used to wear the peak. I would never wear it on the road though the mount of aero you would lose and the fact you could wear sunglasses instead seems to negate the reasons for having a peak. O f course my personal preference is a cap

Same reason I used to wear one - a cap is way better though, ime, than a helmet peak.

I use a shitty MTB helmet, left over from days gone by. I am not a huge lover of helmets, but as they are a requirement for most competitive events, I use this. It had a peak, which I took off for a time trial a while back, and never put back on. Not sure where it is TBH. Don't miss it.

My significant other keeps telling me to buy a new one, in a colour that matches my bike(s).

Yeh, that's not gonna happen.

I voted sometimes depends on the weather, because there wasn't an option for I have two helmets one for the road bike and one for the mtb.
