Peak or no peak - that is the question

Do you wear a peak on your helmet, as supplied in the box, or not? It seems to be a MTB thing, but I'm a (very) confirmed roadie and yet always wear the peak; it helps keep the sun out of my eyes in conjunction with sunglasses, and helps keep the rain out of them too. yet I get very strange looks from some other roadies.

So, roadies, peak or no peak? If you do - any particular reason? If you don't - what's your reasoning (apart from not wanting to look naff)?

(P.S. I thought about putting this in the 'helmet debates' section, but it wouldn't let me post there for some reason - so it's here).

Cheers all.

For Roadies as you say it's a 'no peak' thing for sure. The reason I believe is aerodynamics. On a MTB this matters much less than on the road hence the odd looks (oh and I don't want to look naff) ;)

I'm currently using with peak for the reasons you outlined. But..... both of my bikes are flat bar, as and when i go for a road bike, then who knows.

I have been using it during the "summer", on my road bike, to protect against the sun. Yesterday for the first time I removed it and went for a ride. I'll carry on using my helmet without it.

No peak for me. I took it off as I didn't want to look like I didn't know what I was doing. (Which I don't anyway

). Old helmet which I just replaced (at least 10 years old) didn't have a peak either but was bought for MTB as I used to do a fair bit of offroad riding on my own + runs out with school kids.

I ride with the peak on and find no visibility problems , but I don't use the drops much just the hoods, plus it gives me something to hang my shades on.

No peak on the helmet for me, but I do wear a cycling cap under the helmet when the weather dictates.

I only wear a cap under my helmet when its raining to stop the rain getting on my glasses

Peak on for the MTB and off for the Roadie.

Can't see a blooming thing with it on on the road bike due the riding position and It gives be bad neck ache compensating for it.

I use it regardless of what bike i'm on, I feel like a bit of a knob without one for some reason. It doesn't make my helmet look as frumpy.

Don't have a road bike - snapped on the peak when I bought the helmet and never taken it off - useful in summer & low sun....

Helmet came with a peak and haven't removed it.

'Proper' roadies are more likely to give me strange looks for wearing a camelbak. Can't be bothered to fork out for a cage and bottle for the road bike, when I already bought this for the MTB.
