PayPal advice please,

Hello all,

I am about to buy a jacket off the BR. Site, so I don't want to ask this on there, but the seller has asked to be paid by PayPal gift, my little research has brought to my attention that, paying by gift means the seller has no obligation to send the item to you...! Does this sound right or has anybody had experience of paying this way ?

I hve used it with no issue, but you get charged 3.4% or something...but yes, you would have no comeback as it is not a protected payment method

There are no fees when you use the gift option.

I've sent and received this way with people I feel comfortable in dealing with, but if you have any reservations ask the seller to send you a paypal invoice first, otherwise you are quite right about having no protection.

There most certainly were fees last time I used it...you can choose to pay them, have the seller pay them or share them - if you use a CC/DC

It's free* when you use your PayPal balance or your bank account linked to your PayPal account. There is a charge of 3.4% + £0.20 GBP* for debit or credit card payments (either the sender or recipient can pay this fee).

Ah right, I only ever use it when I have a PP balance, so I sit corrected on that one Vickster.

If you have money in your paypal account then no fee otherwise any other method of payment there is

In relation to the op it is up to you. Ive dealt like this no problems so look on br to see if there's any feedback on the seller there should be a sub forum don't remember the name otherwise if you want some protection then pay the fee yourself

Thanks everyone, I've just sent the seller a message to say I will pay by normal PayPal, he may be genuine, but I'm not prepared to take the risk, he puts his location as just United Kingdom, been a member since 2006, and only 21 posts,
It might just be me been over cautious as I don't buy online very often, will see what his replie is and if he stipulates PayPal gift then I will leave the jacket for someone else.
