I got back to the yard yesterday to find my wages have been cut from £500 a week to £418 a week, as of January 1st. I can understand why this was necessary - it's not a good time to be running a haulage business - but still.;)
Anyone got any driving vacancies?

Has your employer given you the legal minimum notification? There must be one. I also thought wage cuts couldn't be made without consultation and written agreement? Unless of course you're self employed or contract.

Still, on the plus side....

....nah, can't think of anything. That sucks. You could draw consolation from the fact that you've still got a job but that doesn't really help.

Deflationary pressure I am afraid, my old son.........

That is what we can expect to hear coming from the mouths of our bosses soon.... you mark my words..

Prices are coming down, and this could put our wages in the same situation. Does it matter? It doesn't look good on the pay slip, it would be such a difficult calculation that it might well cause a riot so let us all pray for the good old days of 5 % inflation when we knew where we were ;)

I am a self employed gardener and have never felt so rich..., loads of folk need gardeners so get the fork out and start weeding.

Re your job , work slower..... put your feet up [not at the wheel] and read an extra paper at the greasy spoon...

The thing that annoys me about it is not the pay cut itself - as I said, I can understand the reasons for that and I'd rather remain employed on a lower wage than be made redundant in six months - but the attitude in the letter we got telling us about it. "I will not tolerate any reduction in productivity. All such instances will be dealt with via disciplinary procedures", that sort of thing.
At the moment, the boss has "asked" us to take a pay cut, and I'm sure that a solicitor's letter would scare him into backing off, but if the money's not there, there's not much point. Oh well.

He doesn't sound too good on man management!

I've also taken an involuntary pay cut but that's more to do with being self employed and no-one wants to buy my product or services. At least I get plenty of time off:smile::biggrin:

Sorry to hear this but as has already been said, maybe that's the price that has to be paid for the business to remain viable and for your employment to continue.

Yes, the remark about "productivity" stinks, guaranteed to de-motivate and result in the very thing he was worried about:wacko:

Remember, I always do, that there are many many people out there worried about their jobs, jobs that have them in mind numbing boredom everyday, and they might take home half of what you do.
