I like the look of some of the Pave racing bikes, like Pearson's carbon framed Pave 450 - any views on how they would compare with typical cyclo-cross bikes over rougher ground. I don't actually do any CX racing, am just after a new road bike, but like the idea of being able to also take it down the canal path as well roads (with the right tyres); hence, I like the CX bikes, but wondered if the Pave style bikes, like the Pearson, would be similarly suited ?

I have a mountain bike for more broken ground, so the canal path would be the limit for the bike.

Any views?

I don't know about the bikes, but with suitable tyres a regular road bike should be fine on a canal path. Even with unsuitable tyres it should be ok, I've ridden roads that aren't far off!

Clearances look super-tight so you'll be unlikely to get anything thicker than the 23mm tyres that ship with the bike on it, so if you find it a bit too slippery on the rough you'll be stuck with it.
