As usual, there's nothing I particularly fancy and my Wife is asking what I want for Christmas and wants to buy soon. Been looking at the Park PCS10 stand to get now, but saw the Park AK-38 tool set that looks good and thinking of suggesting that for her to get me.

Am a relative newbie, so is that set any good? Is there anything else needed for regular maintenance of my road bike? Are there any other sets worth checking out?

Seen the Park set for £218 odd currently, so that's the rough amount to spend.

Cheers.

Park Tools are great. Most people will tell you (including myself) to just buy the tools you need as and when. That being said, a full set is rather nice

Park Tools are excellent. The Park AK38 tool set is actually a very up-to-date kit that includes almost no tools that you wont use at some point on a very modern bicycle so it would be a very good investment indeed. Don't be tempted by cheaper tool brands - go with Park Tools and you'll be a happy man (or woman). I have the PCS9 stand - although fairly basic as far as stands go, it's built to last (a lifetime).

£218 on CRC right now - that must be a bargain! http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/park-tool-advanced-mechanic-tool-kit-ak38/rp-prod109884?_$ja=tsid:46412|cgn:Park Tool - Tools|cn:Chain Reaction-UK-PLA-PLA-All-DT-SE|kw:393558UK_Park Tool Advanced Mechanic Tool Kit - AK38&gclid=COuHg8iU_roCFa3KtAodXnYA6A

I'll give you a couple of quid for the bottle opener if you don't want it!!!

Cheers both. Might be a goer to make me that happy Man indeed. I like to buy once only, even if its an investment that costs slightly more to start with. Thanks for the input.

The bottle opener was one of the things that caught my eye in the New Products section of the Park site. Was a bonus to see it in this kit, sorry fella.

Was only thinking of something along those lines if worthwhile. Looks like I will be making a list then.

It's the smaller M4 and M5 screws going into aluminum that were a problem for me. The Sealey torque wrench took away any worries.

BTW, get a cheap hex bit set to fit the drive on the wrench. Ebay do them for around a tenner or less.

It's a nice kit and a cost effective way of getting those Park Tools as there are a number of hugely overpriced tools in their range. In my opinion a chainring bolt tool and a pair of quick link pliers would be more use than a tyre boot and bottle opener
+1 for torque wrenches, for the small stuff I use a BBB BTL-73 in our workshop a nice small torq wrench with a set of allen drivers. Cassettes and BB's however require torque loading we bought a wrench from a tool shop with a push through drive as none of the sensibly price torque wrenches from bike specific companies allow for torquing LH threads. Before the trail of "5 white knuckle" replies appear, the No1 cause of crankset problems that arrive in the shop are down to cups fitted hand tight.

Cheers for the comments guys...but I appear to have missed the deal! Price remains but no stock and no back ordering allowed.
