Poor ol' Tommy V, so close for his first season win. He was so peeved he didnt show up for the podium and they took away his prize money.

That was really disgraceful behaviour by Voeckler. He got beaten fair and square and his response shows major disrespect to his opponent and to the race.

Couldn't agree more.

I think he just expected the younger man to naively lead him out, whereas Wallays was tactically perfect. He kept cool against a rapidly closing peloton, got into a better position and was in a better gear. As soon as the sprint started there was only one winner

...and probably had the better legs as well, whereas perhaps Voeckler had gambled a couple of times in the closing stages and lost the bet.

Complete disrespect to the race organisation and his own sponsor. Standard punishment in the UCI regulations. Silly decision and the management should have something to say about that.
I recall one rider placing third, who did that and not only was the prize money lost, the DS fined him enough wages to put what he would have won back into the team pot for the race. He didn't do it again!
