It'd be a shame, but it's not the end of the world. Plenty of other sectors that can be added to a modified route. What seems strange is that there's no mention of repairs, which is the usual reason when it is omitted. Shouldn't be more than a one-off, anyway.

Ronde van Vlaarderen is a classic but does include/exclude different bergs on the route, year by year, so why not P-R? The section proposed to replace it is longer and can be even worse, depending on weather. The race will lose none of it's anachronistic character. First P-R was pave almost all the way - it was called the main road then!
