Paper Stitches

After my self induced :shy: face plant on Friday morning, I got some paper stitches on the cheek. Ive stayed off the bike for three days but 5mins after the off, my body was good and I've been itching to get back out and I'm tempted to go out for a slow ride tonight wearing a buff over it. In all my 38 years I've never had paper stitches before, what do folks suggest?

Non-issue - do it...

Should be OK. Your wound should have knitted - that's the important thing. I held off for just a couple of weeks after my shoulder op - and that was no stitches, just hydrocolloid dressings.

Well, he could ride his bike and risk another faceplant, or follow doctors orders, stay at home and risk walking into a door....
I don't think its a risk of hitting a door, its headbutting it in fustration

Cover up with something properly waterproof, shouldn't get them wet...

What did the doctor/nurse who patched you up actually say?

With my elbow op, I had to keep them for 3 weeks, as well as the internal stiches, however, that would was down to the bone xx(

Keep it dry for 5 days was the message from the nurse (tonight will be 3.5 ). I think I'll give into temptation cover it up with a buff and pop to the supermarket for some bread, milk and bananas and if things are OK go for a longer ride, 10 miles initially with options to up it to 25 or 50.

I stayed off my bike last autumn for 4 weeks until a certain wound closed up (not stitched) but it was in a 'contact' area. The latest (following on from last year) I had to follow the rules - 4 to 6 weeks before getting on a bike.

You should be able to tell how it's healing

Stick a waterproof surgical dressing over the top, a buff isn't exactly waterproof

The advice is given for a reason, not only healing but especially the risk of infection ;) the wound was obviously bad enough for you to get it seen to in the first place and presumably quite deep if steri stripped
