Or at least, one with a decent shoulder strap.

It's for my wife, so different colour schemes would be handy.

It does need to be quick and easy to get off (fnarr!)

My Ortleib back rollers have a shoulder strap, but the top of the pannier bunches up when you use them, so they don't work well over the shoulder.

Any recommendations please?

I've been using this one:

http://www.u34cycling.com/product/sleek-shoulder-bag-pannier/

Not a rucksack but a good shoulder strap. Clips on/off very easily (you need to get your finger under the first clip to help it off). Not much colour choice, mine's the green one and I got it in a sale at the bike shop by Embankment tube in London for £71. It has a separate pouch for your laptop which goes inside the main bag. The outside pocket fits my D-lock while I'm riding too. The bit with the clips on slides out and can be replaced with a plain bit.

I actually use this when I'm not riding the bike as it's a useful bag. I'm afraid the lining is a hideous shade of orange though.

Great, thanks all. I'll give it some thought, try and read some reviews.

I use a Vaude Cycle 28. It's pretty sturdy apart from the bungee to secure the bottom against the rack, which I'd advise you to replace with something else.

Somehow that got dislodged at one point, catching a spoke and wrapping the bungee around the cassette and wedging the hook into it, stopping the chain in the process. That wasn't pleasant as I was doing 20mph at the time on a busy road... I've since replaced it with a regular bungee cord and it's been more than fine since.

Think I might go for the Ortleib Vario. Looks pretty good, and the fact that the hook parts stay on the rack mean that the pannier is less likely to snag clothing &c. when being used as a bag.
