A bit of advice please. My grown up daughter needs a couple of pannier bags to use for local trips to school and small shopping trips. Having looked on line I can pay between £15 and £150 without really knowing what is good or good value. Any recommendations with reasons appreciated. Thanks

Well... in my opinion... the easier they are to get on and off the bike the better... so those with velcro straps can be a pain.

I had no intention of paying top dollar for ortleib bags, but they do tick most boxes... so spent a long time looking for a pair of bags which had an easy quick release catch system, were waterproof, looked like they wouldn't fall apart by next year and had largely positive reviews... having narrowed it down to a couple of options in the 20-25 quid each price range, I thought sod it, I'll spend the little extra and get the ortleib's at £64 a pair... the extra £7 a bag is money well spent.

I use the Altura pannier bags.
Simple push button release then you carry them like a case.Cant remember the model but they have been 100% waterproof and are used for commuting on most days. They are 3 years old now and still look like new

As above, but I got the Altura Arran panniers. Cost me £38 for the pair and I still have one (I destroyed the other coming off the bike on the same side 5 times... all of which at between 15 and 20mph.). Bloody good panniers

Sorry about not replying sooner. Thanks very much for the advice. It is always better than groping in the dark. Cheers.

Depends on how she intends to use them really.

I have some Ortliebs that I use for touring and for doing a "big" shop.

I also have a Linus Sac and a Liv handbag/handlebar bag that are adequate for most of my day to day needs. I keep a bungee net on my rack so I can also use that to hold things if necessary.

All these bags hook/ unhook in milli seconds.

On my vintage bike I have a Basil double pannier thet I've theif proofed by attaching it with cable ties. So it stays on permanently and just put what ever bags I'm carrying in and out.

I have a pair of these, which are very easy to put on and take off the bike. Good for shopping but my one criticism is that there are no external pockets for small things like keys, spare tube etc - although there is a mesh pocket on the underside of the top flap.

Usually discounted to about £40 in the EBC sale in January.
