I did my longest single ride the other day - 72 miles - and was very comfortable throughout.

Yet, when I finished and went to the toilet, urinating was very painful. 24 hours later and I'm passing liquid without pain again.

Is this short-term pain normal during the first few long rides or should I review my position?

I've done many 45-50 miles rides and never had this issue.

As I said, I was very comfortable throughout the ride. Saddle is a broken-in Brooks B17, which is horizontal but the centre sags when I'm sitting on it. If I tilted the saddle nose lower, I'd be sliding forward.

One assumes that you haven't been doing anything naughty with sheep/ women / fellow forum members or other animate objects?

In that case, you were dehydrated & that may well be the cause.

Try to drink more when you exercise.

Thanks guys - I thought I'd been drinking plenty - 3 x 750ml water and 1 x 500ml glucose drink.

It was a warm day and the ride was very hilly so I guess I under- hydrated. Pee'ing fine now.

Running London Marathon 2 years ago, hot day, was clever and drank loads of lucozade, i think it turned acidic inside me, burnt on way out, as others have said plenty of water solved the problem.

Dunno about you but while riding my testes do disappear up into their place in the abdomen. I have experienced a little pain sometimes while urinating after a long ride and I put this down to strong urine and possibly slightly stretched or disturbed plumbing.

(Don't tell me the urethra and the spermy tubes are different, I know that!)

I have had this and attributed it to the brand of energy drink I was using. Not had it for ages, but for me it occurred after long rides where I had drinking energy drink throughout. It could have been dehydration, but I am not certain.

pee in to a glass and check to see if your urine is cloudy. If it is, hie thee to the Urology Department of your local hospital, unless you're completely content that your GP is going to take this seriously. Likewise, if the discomfort persists, or if you get a temperature, or find yourself peeing over-frequently, go get an appointment with the Urology Department. Bear in mind that antibiotics (if it comes to that) are a bit hit and miss - I've just come off a six week session with ciproflaxin
