Finally, after lots of legal and fee haggling, I get to see the private Pain Specialist today with regards to my left shoulder - got about an 80 mile round trip though (in car). It was recommended I see a Specialist in early September - two months of wrangling.

For those that don't know I was knocked off my bike 3 years ago, finally got a shoulder decompression in Feb 11, but my shoulder is still very painfull, and I have permanent nerve damage in my neck (brachial plexus) which causes pain and burning in my left arm and around the schoulder blade.

Hopefully this person will be able to recommend a plan. We are hoping that I get a managed holistic programme, hopefully by someone who is an expert in sport. I don't seem to take well to the nerve medication I've been prescribed so far, so we are looking at physio/chiro/acupuncture and training plans with someone that ideally knows about cycling.

The specialist has to do a full report for both parties and I'll be pushing to get this returned pronto - rather than taking two months (like the last private specialist).

I'll let you know how it goes on later. I'm also going to ask about what might happen if I get further trauma to the area (which is likely riding a bike).

Interesting discussion - the nerve problem is most likely being made worse by my muscles in my neck and back being so tight, so will need some work to get sorted. I've also got muscle wastage near the bottom of my shoulder blade - so this all looks more promising than the NHS just prescribing drugs. Some proper treatment and exercise routing should have it sorted over time.
