I seem to have suffered with this since taking up cycling in September but thought it may be just using muscles I havn't used for 30 years

I have a pain right at the top of my inner leg where it joins the crutch and its really peeing me off now as I'm struggling to go any further than 10 miles

This only happens when cycling and my left leg is fine

I've altered the height of the seat and its position, the seat is also nice and flat and I'm reasonably happy with the set up, but something is still causing me this pain.

I suppose I'm looking for a definitive answer that says its definately seat height or seat position forward/back

Any pointers most welcome

Thanks

Its hard to see and really needs an expert eye (a physio) but could it be that the left leg is shorter than the right and a simple shim would sort it?

Do you mean put one of those metal leg stretching contraptions on

Could be a groin strain, but go to the docs. Its all only guesswork here.

Its a good point about a slightly shorter leg

I'm going to try setting the seat height again concentrating on the left leg and see how we go

Thanks for the comments

I suffer from the same thing in my upper right leg and I'm 99% sure that my problem is due to a varicose vein.

I rode the Kirklees Sportive a few years ago wearing leg warmers that were too tight for me and I think that they partly cut the blood supply off. I've had problems ever since, and I can feel a lumpy vein that wasn't a problem before.

I find that wearing shorts that are too tight causes the problem to flare up so I spent half of last year riding in my baggy MTB shorts which eliminated the pain.

My mum had a lot of problems with varicose veins and had them operated on a couple of times. Apparently, susceptibility to them can be inherited. I developed one in my lower leg from 5 years of standing in a factory job.

Could also be a strain to your adductor. Have you tried spinning in an easier gear to see if easing the pressure eases the strain?

Do you use clipless pedals? The cleat on the painful side may need to be adjusted.

As other have said, seek professional help it a few tweaks can't sort things out.
