Hi

I'm new to biking and even newer to clipless pedals. I'm getting a slight pain in the arch of my right foot. I'm guessing it's to do with the angle I have the cleats set at, does anyone know if this tends to indicate they need turning in/out? I realise there'll be some trial and error but just wanted to start in the right direction if possible.

Cheers

I had this the first time I used my SPD-SL pedals/hoes/cleats. I found my shoes were done up way too tightly, loosened them a little and it's gotten a lot more comfortable

That could make sense! I did pull on the straps when I but the shoes on, I'll have a play with it on the next few rides :-)

I would guess you are too "toes out, heel in" making you put more weight on the ball of the foot instead of spreading it over the width.

But as with everything bike fit related, other fit issues not related to cleat position could be causing the issue.

Are your legs parallel to the top bar as you pedal or are your knees pointing out

EDIT: Start with Steves suggestion. I made that mistake too.

Have ratchet strap, will tighten it until I get blue feet!

Pretty parallel, my gut feeling if it is the cleat position fits with what you say i.e. need to move the heel out. I'll have a play with shoe tightness and maybe tweak the cleats slightly. Sure I'll get it sorted, luckily it wasn't a really bad pain but want to get it sorted before I really start racking up the mileage.
