Which brands are recommended please?. The pads supplied with Fosca shorts are instantly binnable. Endura seem fine up to about 50k then the thinness of the pad becomes evident.

Assos is one of the best, expensive but worth every penny, imho.

OK change of plan on my part. New Assos shorts at £100 plus are not justified so I will use my lightweight bib shorts under touring shorts for those days when the lycra look will raise too many eyebrows.

I like Gore and Pearl Izumi, they aren't as expensive as Assos

Perhaps look at your saddle?

I use Gore bibs for longer rides, that said DHB bibs are worth a look not as costly as some of the 'Gucci' brands but just a comfortable.

Saddle wise; Brooks B17 standard, some will be now screaming 'torture instrument designed by the devil' me I wouldn't attempt any ride over 100km without mine underneath me.

I've just done a mini-tour, avg 104km per day, with Shutt VR Club bib shorts, sometimes under baggies.

Another vote here for Gore, I have a pair of their 'power' bibshorts and I normally do 80-100km's most Sundays without any issues on the comfort front.
