Yesterday on our club run we had a new club record for number of punctures. (Thats excluding the nutters who like to throw tacks in the way)
Someone shouted 'puncture' so we all stopped. I inspected my tyre to find something lodged in the tread... so I pulled it out... it was a thorn.... 'tssss' down goes my tire. Other people inspecting their tyres and found they had punctures too. All in all there were about 20 people with punctures. I had 2 thorns in one tyre, somone else had 5 thorns wedged in both their tyres!
After the punctures had been repaired we set off again and found another group who had stopped because of punctures, and I think we bumped into another one a bit further down.
The cause was a farmer who was trimming the hedges about 1/2 mile down the road
At least now I have a good idea how to remove the back wheel and repair a puncture. (I already knew how, but it was good to actually do it).
Lessons learned: Always bring more than 1 spare tube, and don't buy a hand pump from Asda.
Since it is getting to the time of year where farmers are cutting down their hedges and stuff, it would probably be the best time to start using heavier armadillos, or equivalent. And if it's possible take a different route!
