(also reported in Sunday Times apparently but behind a paywall)

Of course I find Oxford Street toxic at the best of times - loads of crap I have no need to buy, full of Italian youths clutching bags and bags of cheap clothes they will fly back with to wear once, but can it really be the most toxic place in the entire earth?
I have my doubts having also been to Shanghai and especially Beijing xx(

It is nitrogen dioxide levels in London and not so much the particulates, which have higher levels elsewhere. I'll only ride in that part of London on a Sunday. Mind, they did a recent series of air pollution tests locally and much of the trunk road network around here are way above the legal limits. Does anybody remember what happened to the EU threat to fine the UK?

When did Nitrous Oxide (laughing gas) become toxic, my dentist used it all the time. I know it can produce acid rain but its nowhere near as bad as sulphur dioxide for that.
