Just cycled 22.9 miles, world record for me in one go! Although I was feeling really weak and a bit sick for the first few miles, not right at all - almost threw at one point. Think I have had a bit of a bug... I found the climb (only up to Pott Shrigley, not exactly Ventoux) quite hard, but the rest was fine. My bum hurts now I suppose it'll get used to it! Very satisfying to have burned 1500 kcals though! ;)

The bum ache you get used to (saddle sore), I too felt really bad last night and some of today with some flu-like symptoms which I must have defeated unknowingly. I managed a forty mile run on saturday and the quads ached all night after, was a great workout for them being not used to that distance.

Keep it up, it only gets better!

Make sure your bike it fitted properly. This will become imperative as you extend mileage. A saddle too high or low will cause butt issues.

If you continue to have soreness, once you are sure of fit, try a few different saddles. Find a shop who will let you try a few for a short ride or have a reasonable return policy.

Many long-distance riders swear by Brooks saddles, especially the B-17. No one can tell you for sure however which saddle will work for you.

Where's your grit and determination man?? you should have carried on till 30 miles!!!

Well done, soon you'll feel cheated if you only go out and ride 22 miles then it's a slippery slope to all day rides and coming home in the dark.

Carry on up past the Old Brickworks and turn left at the top - a decent hill in itself, turn left at the top and take your next left to go past the Hilton Hotel on your right, you can turn left at the end for Disley or turn right for Whaley Bridge.

It's a route to build up to. Bikehike gives 1600ft of climbing in 18 miles in a loop from the Rising Sun.

If you're coming from the Legh Arms it's the left turn in Pott Shrigley and from Bollington it's on your right.
Have fun - it's a good hill but can be a little busy with cars sometimes for a narrowish road. Take care eh?

Man, barely three miles around the park and my arse/thighs and chuffing *hands* are aching. I'm assuming (hoping) these are refresher bumps, two-plus years without having a bike and not knowing how to ride properly, so I'll power through.

I'll worry about the bike/seat set-up once I'm a bit less of an unfit, out-of-practice idiot. (Just a bit less, mind.)
