Got a horrid stitch on the way home from work  I am sure this is down to a lack of fitness, I was pushing it quite hard (for me) when it started and it got steadily worse over the next 10-15 minutes. Luckily at the point that it caused me to be doubled over, I was close to home and it has more or less passed after a yelp and a lie down on the sofa!

Any tips for getting rid of such nastiness when not 2 minutes from home?

TIA

My guess is shallow breathing and/or/also lack of fitness.

Big deep breaths, abs pushed out -diaphragm up

I don't think I have any abs

Lack of fitness almost certainly, just back on bike since early October - although I have been using an exercise bike this year

I find it happens if im breathing very heavily without controlling my breathing speed, getting into a rhythm tends to make it go away.
What's a stitch?
I think you guys call them side stitches. Common pain around the bottom of your ribcage when exercising

OK thank you. I don't recall having heard them called that in my area but it looks like a term they use in some areas here too. We always called them side aches or side cramp. I felt like she might be referring to something like that but wasn't sure.

Yes, but by the end it was more or less my whole torso not just one side, not pleasant!.

Back on the bike to work this morning. Not usually able to go very fast in the morning due to the traffic

Had it in early Feb this year .... Caused by lack of cycling, lack of fitness and trying to gun it.
Over the next few rides i started off much slower and the stitch never came

Take it steady, I sometimes confuse a stitch with the start of a chest infection

Does from time to time but not linked to food as more after work when I haven't eaten. Maybe yours is indigestion or trapped wind?
