Do whatever makes you happy/comfortable, and if anyone says otherwise throw your water bottles at them, (when they're full and preferably frozen) ^_^

The older I get, the faster I used to be ...
You need a selection of overshoes to suit the weather, I also have oversocks to wear on those cold frosty spring mornings on days you know will turn out warm later.

I find two pairs of socks are better.

My shoes are very, no VERY snug I doubt I could get two pairs of socks on and wear them

Maybe they are too snug. My feet get very very cold unless they have room to move around, I find keeping my shoes slightly loose keeps my feet warmer.

They do have room to move, but not lots, I think they are too well ventilated, big vent on the front and one all along the heel from the mid section, nothing if you ride in the summer, they are so nice to wear but a cold day and all you want is home in front of a radiator

My feet are always the thing that determines how long I can stay out its weird, my hands are fine in the middle of winter in some specialized deflects which are not very thick gloves but once my feet get cold im done.

In nice weather I wear specialized mtb shoes and if it is raining but warm I may put some overshoes on as well.
