Have to tell someone about this milestone
Am I real mountain biker now?

Probably not.. I was on very soft wet marsh land (Kilpatrick hills above and west of Glasgow) and occasionally the surface water in front hid a deep stream and so the front wheel went straight in sending me right over the top. Landing was very soft and no harm done to me or the bike
Actually I enjoyed it !
Not exactly downhill'ing but I'm getting on a bit so this will do for me

Yes, this happens a lot on boggy ground.
We were up High Street (Ullswater) in April and between 4 of us, we did this 5 or 6 times.
Your bombing along, minding your own business then the front wheel drops and sticks. Blam!

As you say, nice soft landings - usually!

Yip I just can't imagine going over the bars of a rocky downhill at speed

That's the easy part. It's when the bike comes crashing down on you that it begins to smart. On a positive note, chicks dig scars....

Picked my bike up from having a service this morning...

LBS: The rear derailleur and the mech hanger were both damaged. Has it had a crash?

Me: Hell yeah. Several...

LBS: Good. Glad to know it's being used as intended.
