Just seeing if anybody else is doing the BHF/Transpennine Over The Edge ride this Sunday?

I recced the gold route (50 miles 1.2km climbing) last Saturday, managed it in just about 3 hours, though I started and finished from the Fishermans pub, but I did stop twice to take photos. Looks like it might be damp on Sunday, so wet roads might cancel out any shared effort advantage.

I'm fifty/fifty for doing this, feel a bit run down, good weather would probably get me out to play.

Talking to a chap from Transpennine CC on Monday - he was sure that entries on the day would be ok, just make sure you're there in plenty of time. More details here.

Weather might be a bit 50/50, though it depends which website you ask. I'll be out whatever it's like. Hopefully rain will hold off until about 1pm, so i should be finished by then

Todays Rochdale Observer has info on the ride, on the day registration is definite. The on the day fee is £13 with children half price.

Weather sites converging on light winds, shifing through the morning, but mostly easterly, which is good for this route. Light drizzle rather than rain too.

Did the ride today, gold route. Great fun, well organised and a good cause. Started from the front, stayed at the front, with one guy ahead after blackstone edge, and one lad from west pennine who overtook at mytholmroyd (1st time). No one else passed me so bit suprised when they said I was 4th back.

Nevermind, I was 3rd in my head. Time was 2hr50mins, 16.8 mph (27 km/h) average. computer had 48 miles (77 km), and 3935 ft (1200 m) climbing. West Pennine rider was back in about 2hr20mins (!).

Dry until part way up Cragg Vale, and by then I was quite happy for the rain as I'd finished my bottles.

Yeah, I thought it was a well organised event as well, although not very well advertised. It was only your post that alerted me to it. Managed it in 2hrs 55mins, which I was quite pleased with as I stopped for a chat and a flapjack at Mytholmroyd. It was my first time up Heptonstall Hill and I really enjoyed it. May go up there again on Saturday but turn right for Widdop.

I went out up the Cragg Vale climb yesterday and got overtaken by several OTE riders. Quite a few of them clearly thought that I was a non-cyclist doing my first charity ride; I was certainly riding a bit like one - it took me 42 minutes to get from Mytholmroyd up to Blackstone Edge!

What I didn't mention was that Durham police were searching the moors at the side of the road. I just found out that they found the body of a Durham woman who had been living locally and had been reported missing by her family. Her partner has been charged with murder.

RIP
