Looking at getting some overshoes. Advice, please.

Why?

Next cycling upgrage, and will allow me to complete Audaxes, Sportives and other rides when the weather is wet without feet getting cold and wet in a big puddle of water in the bottom of my shoes.

What?
I'm currently running clipless SPD shoes on a road bike. Shoes have recessed cleats that allow me to walk normally.

What choices do I have, and what do I have to look out for?

One point. Overshoes will work to a point but they are not waterproof. I think the term is "water resistant"

Having struggled through 2 Scottish winters and never having found a set of overshoes that kept my feet warm and dry I stopped wasting time and money looking for the solution and purchased a pair Specialized Defroster Winter Boots. Highly recommended

I'm tempted to buy a pair of winter boots too.

However there is still a need for overshoes, for rainy days not in winter.

If it’s warm having wet feet is not much of an issue, however, I have to agree for intermediate days I use Sealskin waterproof socks.

I use these also.
Expensive they may seem but worth every penny as far as I am concerned.

Have you heard of athlete's foot?

I got a bout of it last year exactly because of wet feet in warm weather.

Wet shoes will eventually feck your shoes up too.

Down vote from me for Endura overshoes. Two pairs, two failures. My preferred choice at the moment is BBB Waterflex or one of their harder wearing models. I also find wrapping my shoes in glad wrap first and then putting on the overshoe makes a big difference.

Gore Race Power Themo overshoes are pretty great. They're easy to get on with a velco heel fastening and made from very durable goretex fabric. Possibly a bit too warm for summer although I had mine on on Saturday. I've also got Endura Thermolites which are not nearly as warm but they get into a mess quickly because of their flimsy outer material.

I've been using these for two years, mine have the Kevlar on underside of toes and heal. I wouldn't buy anything else now. Good fit, strong zips and stitching. If its torrential rain and your commuting take another pair of socks. these overshoes will keep the worst of it out though. They get my vote anyway! P.s they've had some serious use this year commuting unfortunately lol

I went with Altura Stream overshoes as they have a velcro closure and fit over all shoes (mtb and road). They are not as waterproof as Neoprene overshoes but Neoprene doesn't always fit and I've never had a problem with cold feet. Their availability could be limited it seems that the bigger shops no longer sell them, it could be a newer similar model is out.
