Been working 12 hr shifts since I got my new bike last week, so today the weather is dry and I'm off....

Train to Johnstone, ride the sustrans path to Greenock then back down the dreaded coast road to Largs.

Hoping not to have a "cleats virgin" moment!!!!

Looks like a nice run - have fun, and let us know what it's like!

(I haven't ridden the Greenock to Largs coast road - why is it "dreaded"?)

What a cracking ride! Perfect weather and a bit of a tail wind. Still only managed an average of just over 10 mph though, mainly because we took a path along the coast at Inverkip which was a muddy swamp in places. Not good for my new toy! At least I now know it does have some off road capabilities.

Off to wash the bike now (it lives indoors) and to update cyclogs.com.

No falling off due to cleats......yet! (In fact very impressed with them).

Weegie: It is the "dreaded" coast road due to the amount of fast-ish traffic that uses it, and it is quite narrow. Not bike friendly at all. Having said that, it was actually pretty quiet today.

you need to have what's known as a clip-less moment. every cyclist who rides clip-less has had one, although i recommend one in a quiet area away from cars and onlookers

glad you enjoyed your new bike.

Why not take the route from Johnstone to Kilbinie and come into Largs from there?

Reason 1. The climb out of Kilbirnie  (need to get my fitness sorted!).

Reason 2. (The real reason, honest!) My bro lives in Kilmacolm and was wanting to join me. So I met him there, and he got the train back to Johnstone from Largs.

I suppose we could have gone to Loch Thom and then Largs from there, but the original plan was just to go to Gourock for bro to get train back the way, and me to go on to Largs.

Do we have pics of this 'new bike'?

Not yet......

Haven't got round to taking any, and in any case I don't know how to post them on here.

It's a Specialized Tricross, like this one (if the link works):
