Tarmac hurts......

Lovely day Sunday, going along nicely beginning to drop into Hornchurch, took a swig of water... and that's where it all went wrong..

Took my eye off the road when putting the bottle into the cage, my weight shifted and the front wheel clipped the kerb (was too close to that), next thing I know I'm on my back soaked with water from my own bottle, leg and arm burning with road rash...

Limping around the house today, couple of thoughts spring to mind:
  • Next time be more blinking careful....
  • Cycle helmets are definitely a good investment
  • The old gentleman who came out of his house to see if I was ok and offered me a cup of tea, was a very nice chap
  • How much is it going to cost to sort out the bent brake lever and slightly warped front wheel...

Sorry to hear about your off. If you are struggling to get the bike fixed nip it into see John at chainlink cycles just past Hornchurch sports centre on the way into Romford. Top bloke, won't rip you off. Always take my bikes to him.

Bike is back (thank you Thurrock Cycles)....!

Looks like I have also sold my motorbike, which means I will probably be looking to get a new cycle and use the current one as a back-up...:bicycle:

Is the brake lever actually bent or is it just twisted slightly around the handlebar? If it's the latter, you can peel back the rubber hood and locate the allen key bolt that fastens the lever unit to the bars. Loosen it off a little - twist back into line and tighten the bolt, then roll back the hood cover. If it's the former then it's probably time to go to the LBS and see what they say. I am assuming this is a road bike btw... dunno why, just a hunch!

I also wobble when I take on water. But unlike my mate I usually go out with, I don't hug the left side of the road, leaving myself a fair amount of distance.

YES, helmets are a must on the road!

Glad to hear you are ok buddy
