I've hurt my knee . I was cycling home tonight and my knee started to hurt above and below my kneecap. Only had half a mile to go so i carried on. Now that pain has gone but i have a sharp pain pin pointed on top of my knee cap!! What have I done? There is no swelling, just pain when i put pressure on, walking is ok but climbing the stairs really hurts and also if i bend it more than about 45 degrees or quickly. Is it serious? I need to be on my bike coz i ran over a big deer last week and i don't want to drive home in the dark coz i still feel really bad about it. need to be on my bike in 3 hours.

Or just pay to see one privately, but RICE first, it may be a sprain / niggle that resolves. A GP will at least be able to prescribe a more meaty anti-inflammatory, try ibuprofen first barring gut / allergy issues

To be fair, my GP was very good at referring me - helped by having private HC of course!

Hope it gets better quickly @buggi - and for those who don't know what RICE means (I didn't):

RICE is a mnemonic for a treatment method for soft tissue injuries which is an acronym for Rest, Ice, Compression and Elevation.[1][2][3] When used appropriately, recovery duration is usually shortened and discomfort minimised.[citation needed]

RICE is considered a first-aid treatment, rather than a cure for soft tissue injuries. The aim is to manage discomfort and internal bleeding.[4]

Ouch indeed. I hope it isn't but it could be something like IT Band; there's no visible source of injury in its case just excruciatiang pain. As said above RICE and if there's no sign of recovery see a physio.
i hope not either!
