"Young and Ex-whippet"
First time coming off my bike today. Did it while I was having a go at trackstanding.

Had left foot unclipped to stop me falling over, but unfortunately I fell on the right foot. Preventing me from being able to stop myself falling.
Ended up with a cut to my knee and some grazzing to my arm. Bar tape was a bit wrecked and seat was torn but nothing major.

Good job I was on a small, quiet road, not a big main one.

Will post the video on in a minute.

When I was younger and more agile I could perform an impressive trackstand for anything up to about a quater of a second.

I wouldn't learn to trackstand clipless, and once proficient I wouldn't want to track stand clipless on any but the quietest road. Then again, I wouldn't want to go clipless full stop.

Trackstanding once you have mastered it is pretty easy. The trick is to learn your escape. If you start to feel like you are falling, pedal forward to regain balance and if needed then put your foot down.

All well and good on quiet roads, but in the rush hour you can be trackstanding with little room to spare between you and the car/ cyclist/ pedestrian in front with scant room to manoeuvre. What with that and having to concentrate on the traffic lights, there's more than enough to think about without remembering which foot is in and out of the clip (which in any case is less comfortable than resting on a flat pedal IMHO).

I have no trouble trackstanding in central London during rush hour. It really isn't that hard once you have learnt.

Keeping both feet on the pedals whilst stationary.

Despite years on fixed wheel this one thing I have never quite mastered, maybe one day I will have time to spare and be able to find a quiet corner to practise, then maybe I can master it.

I occasionally find myself doing it at lights when I haven't realised I am stationary with both feet in the toeclips. As soon as I realise what I am doing I lose the balance and have to put a foot down.
