Hi Everyone.

Last year I started cycling again. I was cycling every chance I got and was finally feeling confident on the roads. Unfortunately I am now back to square one as I took a tumble off my bike and broke both (yes both) of my elbows. Understandably my confidence is shot. Anyone got any tips for building confidence back up after a topple?

Thanks

Maybe cycling's not for you dude?

;-)

Welcome.

I can only suggest pushing yourself to get back on the roads. First stick to quiet roads, walk your bike if you aren't comfortable riding. Take your time, but try to go a little further each time. See how you feel, and come back here to share your experience.

Do you understand why you came off? What can you do to stop it happening again?

I had a little problem like yours last year, and powering through is what helped me.

Good luck!

What kind of cycling were you usually doing, and what kind do you want to do now?

If you're in Cambridge, head out on the cycleway up towards St. Ives. No traffic, smooth tarmac, plenty of space to go as fast or slow as you wish. Ideal place to get your cycling mojo back.

A couple more thoughts
  1. Cycling is better for you than not cycling. Despite how scary these incidents, on average you will live longer, and be healthy and active longer if you cycle.
  2. It's ok not cycle: if you can't ever feel safe again, don't beat yourself up; look for other pleasures.
