The Otley Sportive is a series of events to encourage all cyclists regardless of ability to
come together to ride in a social, supportive environment.
The Otley Sportive started in 2011 through the NHS Have Fun Feel Good Campaign, and as a
incentive to get employees of NHS organisations in Leeds to try cycling and entering group rides
without the 'feel and judgement' of a club ride starting out with just 40 riders.
2012 was the second ride, with over 400 riders taking part. The event was supported by British Cycling,
Edinburgh Bicycle Cooperative and Bridge Church Scout Group. A huge success of a event, and creating a
legacy of the London 2012 Olympic Games.
The team behind The Otley Sportive, continue to look at the development of cycling from a grass roots
level working on the social inclusive element rather than a competitive and exclusive approach, of which we are very proud of.
2013 gives us an opportunity to improve on the Sportive from 2012 with a long term approach to getting
the Sportive in the right place to be sustained and become part of the Otley Community. As well as this
we will continue to look how we can help support grass root cycling in Otley on a regular basis.
