OT: Sky Box

I have recently unplugged all my TV equipment and then re-connected it again following a bit of decorating. Having hooked it all up again I have noticed that the Sky box is quite warm to touch, and I am sure the picture is not quite as sharp as previously. Everything is connected as it should be, can anyone with Sky tell me if the box they are using gets warm or have I got a problem?

I have never noticed this before, but then I have never had occassion to touch the thing in the seven years I have had it. Ta for any help.

Sky boxes get warm. Whether you think there is a problem is a more philosophical question to do with digiboxes. Unless it crashes 2 or 3 times a day I'd say no. It's not a Pace is it?

Sky had 3 suppliers of the normal boxes. Pace were regarded as the least stable. Same with the cablecos. My mate had about 5 in the early 00s, I've had them. They do overheat/crash/stall as a general rule. They've been slowly phased out by the two respective companies although there are a lot still knocking around. If you think the picture quality has deteriorated I wouldn't worry too much.

I think my skybox is on its way out (Amstrad)...from time to time it makes a horrid screeching noise, pixellates the image and freezes it.

Never had a problem with a pace box, as for the amstrad ones ;)!

I've recently had the Amstrad Sky+ box (the white one), it "freezes" (won't change channel) regularly, getting right on my tits it is...

I was forever having to reboot my old Sky+ box along with a host of other small niggling 'issues'. What a revelation is my new Sky HD box. A really nice quality feel and look to it and it has not missed a beat so far in a two or three months, a genuine step up in quality over the old machines.

I'd like to upgrade to HD Dom but I'm beginning to feel like I may as well have my employer pay my salary directly to Sky...

A little unfair I reckon, my bill is only around £30 a month with SkyTalk phone calls, SkyBroadband (2mbps) and SkyTV with all the standard channels and the movies, including the HD and Sky+ subs.

You do have to pay extra for the phone line rental though to BT.

Thanks for the replies. I have now moved the box to the bottom of the cabinet where there is a bit more room. I must say I have never had trouble with the picture freezing or having to re-boot it (Unlike Ondigital, which was a curse).

People stick them in cabinets with other machines above and have no end of problems with them.

Our free view box sits on top the AV receiver, with the DVD player sitting on top of it! When watching a DVD up loud the whole pile gets stupidly hot. I'm surprised it hasn't caused any problems but as yet its been fine.
