Having recently ditched the car I've just ordered a Carerra Subway 2 hybrid to use in the urban jungle as a commuter. Thought it would be safer and more comfortable around town than a road bike and I'll be able to add panniers and mudguards without much fuss I'm hoping. Does this bike sound like a good choice?

I'm 6'3 and according to the Carerra sizing guidelines I'd need a 22" frame. Does this sound right? When I get it what sort of body position should I be looking for to make sure it fits?

One other thing I found out after ordering it is that you can't change the stem height, would there be anyway around this?

Sounds about right for the frame size, although I'm a fraction taller and find the 20" quite comfortable as well.

You can source a different shape stem, or a stem with a different rise, a stem extender, or handlebars with a different rise even. It's not as simple as an 'adjustment', but it's doable, same end result in some form or other. Height wise a good starting point is the handlegrips set an inch lower than the nose of the saddle, and work from there.

Thanks I did try the 20" they had set up and found it comfortable enough. Ideally what type of riding position should I be looking for in a hybrid?

Just measured my old MTB and its 21" and it never felt oversized so that's some relief I've picked the right frame size!

That's good news regarding the stem that there are still some options available, so if I decided I wanted a more upright riding position later on this should be doable?

You asked about riding position above.

In my experience there was only one riding position which was upright like a big sail for incoming headwinds !

I did find that fitting bar ends gave me the option to move my hands about a bit and adopt a more natural position on the bars without twisting my wrists. Enjoy your new bike !

haha I don't mind being a big sail long as I feel a bit safer round the city in more upright position with easy access to the breaks, not looking to set any land speed records! Good call on the bar ends will add them to my shopping list

Anyone know what mudguards might be suitable? I'd like some full mudguards if possible but the tyres are 27.5x1.95

Would these SKS Trekking Reflective Mudguard Set - 700c x 45mm fit?
