hi guys,

looking to get a new road bike. looking to spend in the region of 800-900 depending what I get for my mountain bike.

had a look at these two bikes coudl someone give me a little advice as to which is bette ror are there others I shoudl be looking at?

Looking at the Orbea Aqua TSR or TTG or the Boardman Comp.

My old bike had the sora gears which I found ok however didnt like having to move my hands up and down the bars to adjust so I would like ot go with tiagra or similar.

I like the fact the Orbea is measured up for you in terms of body geometry etc rather than just the sales man takes your height and hands you stock. MAybe just a sales gimmick but it sounds good!!

Cheers, Ross

Can't speak on behalf of the Orbea as I've never ridden one, but I have 2 boardmans and they're excellent imo.

The Comp has SRAM Apex which is good if you live in a hilly area or need some easier gears to get you up the climbs. Ive got the Apex on my CX Team and they shift very well and I like the range for when I'm touring.

If you can eek an extra £100 out of your budget though you could get the Team which looks like a very very nice bike this year.

Obviously though, I'd recommend speaking to the mechanics in your local Halfords. See if they know what they're talking about and whether you'd trust them to build up your bike. I'm not going to ignore the fact that many people have had bad experiences from Halfords but I've not had any myself with my 2 bikes.

I have an Orbea Aqua and love it. It came with Tiagra but now upgraded to ultegra but kept the fram as I like it so much. The only thing I wasn't keen on was the stem as it was huge (about 140mm) which is way too big.

I have an Orbea also, and is a dream to ride (@ jpb, my stem was 110mm when I bought it), I can't comment on the Boardman range, but Wiggle do Focus Cayo full carbon road bike with 105 groupset for £1099 Here or they do a Focus Cayo with Ultegra (ex 2011 demo model) for £989 Here

You should find that neither are 'bad' bikes and one isn't necessarily 'better' than the other - at this level all bikes are very good for the price.
What suits you, however, may not suit the next person, so go and test ride both. Your decision may be much easier after that!

If you coerced me to choose one I might be biased as I have an Orbea!
