Hi,
I have been commuting on an old Scott MTB for a few weeks. My fitness and strength are getting better.
I am starting to get a few 'noises' from the bike. I also a Merida speedster hybird, but when I took it out at the weekend it felt too
upright. On measuring the cockpit of both bikes the scott is a good 10cms longer. I am now wondering what options I have to make
the Merida fit or spend money on doing up the Scott.

I have a set of bars that are turned up at the front, see below, but i don't know if these will take my brakes and gear levers..

what are your thoughts?

Those bars can be a faff getting cabling from brifters to go under the bar tape, I cheated and went for bar-end shifters and used interrupter/cross top brake levers with the racing type nipple fitting into the adjuster at the front (reversed so that the handle points backwards as normal brake levers would but the cable exits at the back under the bar tape)

could i not, if theyt would fit,
just put the levers from the Merida hybrid on it? So the straight bars near the stemm would have the levers but the bits pointing forward would be empty, i know that i would have to change hand positions to change gears but would that be such a pain whilst commuting?

Check the bar diameters are the same as your stem. Have you considered just adding bar end extensions? This will give a similar set up to the low- pro bars you are considering.

If you are able to stretch out more now, a longer stem is an option and easy to fit.

Good luck

That looks do-able if they're not too close to the stem, that would be like straight bars with bar ends but in one piece, I thought you were starting off with road levers so sorry if I've confused you.

I already have some bar ends,Cane Creek Ergo Grip II Bar End, but these put my hands almost square with the headset./ I am thinking the low pro bars will stretch me out a bit, but am now wondering whether I would be better off getting some thing fit properly ?
