it only started this week as far as i am aware everything is up to date. sorry that post was devoid of any details hahahaa

I've had big problems with Firefox shutting down when I use You Tube. It was never a problem until I got the most recent version of Firefox.

FF updated last week, and mostly, when it does this it auto updates all plug-ins. BBC use realplayer for some bizarre reason so you might need to update that too.
Have you tried running FF in safe mode?
A lot of extensions really don't work with all sites. ie noscript-good add-on, but its real clunky
