DCRainmaker is a very good link and how I learnt about all this stuff. I use the OSM maps from Talkytoaster, I last downloaded them 2 years ago and they are very good. Choose the ones with elevation data.

I've just come back from a short Belgium tour and used the maps from openfietmaps.nl which were also good but lacked any elevation data so you can't see what terrain is coming up which is a bit annoying.

I have Velomap on my 800 also, but it has all cycle paths, tracks, bridleways, etc on and not good for road riding. I gave up on it eventually as I got sick of my course being altered by the 800 wanting to take me across field etc.

I don't use autorouting, so the device asking me to go down an inappropriate track isn't an issue. I've used velomap for Finland, Sweden, Norway and France successfully

I don't use autorouting either as even Garmin recommend turning it off, but on occasions, an 800 will change a course after it has been uploaded to it and want to take you off road. The only way to spot their is an issue before hand is check the mileage of the original course and after its been uploaded onto the 800, if it varies, then you know somewhere enroute there has been a change in the course. Its also best to avoid having bicycle selected as the mode of transport and stick to car/motorcycle.
