Started riding a secondhand Apollo Hybrid about a month ago and allready feeling the benefit.lost a few pounds and feel healthier.

Done a couple of 10 milers over the last few weeks trying to avoid the worst of the hills.Usually do at least 3 or 4 miles each day.

Today really pleased to have done an 18 miler:smile:. Took the bike to Mermaid Quay in Cardiff Bay by boat then went the wrong way before finally getting onto the Taff Trail. My intention was to do 10 miles up to make 20 total.First 8.5 miles was just a very gradual uphill as it would be following a river. Then a really steep bit upto Castell Coch.

Didnt want to whizz down the other side of the mountain just to get to 10 miles each way so stopped there before enjoying the easy bit back to Cardiff Bay.

Couldnt have done it without the encouragement and advice I have had from you guys about setting up the bike etc.

Left the bike on deck for the short sail back.If I took the wheels off the bike would stow out of the way in the cabin for sailing any distance.

Im looking forward to combining sailing with some cycling through the summer.

I think three sets of congratulations are in order. Doing a very healthy mileage. Combining cycling with sailing is imaginative. Your photography is also interesting. Keep it up!

Re taff Trail

Thanks for the kind words. When I decided to buy a bike I viewed it with some dread as a neccesary evil to help me shed a few pounds and get a bit fitter.

I have been amazed at how much I am enjoying it. A big part of the enjoyment has been as a result of chatting and getting good advise from people on this forum.Eg my legs were on fire until someone suggested I check the seat height,it was about 2 inches too low. Simple tip transformed my cycling.

Im sure I will have plenty more new boy dopey questions so apologise in advance:smile:

Errrr.....
Oh My God! You have combined the two loves of my life - bikes and boats, it doesn't get any better! xx(xx(

Having a bike makes checking out a new port much easier, you can have a good nose round the area, get away from all the expensive boaty places and find somewhere nearby with good food and beer.

If you ever make it down to Pompey then give me a shout - I'd love a look at that boat of yours. We can compare bikes if you like. Oh, and well done, keep it up!

That's a great report banjo - and sure to be an inspiration for all. You need to have a quiet chat with Auntie Helen of this parish when it comes to spin achers knackers nakers and assorted boaty things...

It was the section of the "Taff Trail" from Cardiff Bay to Castell Coch which is about 9 miles each way. The Trail goes from Cardiff To Brecon which is about 55 miles each way for those who are upto it. The bit I did was really pleasant riding. Very slightly uphill going north (hardly noticeable until you turn round and realise its a bit easier:smile:)

The only really steep bit was up the hill to the castle. This bit can be detoured around apparently.

A google search takes you to loads of info.
