Example last weekend i had a crack at the London - Cambridge ride.. completed in 3hrs 31 mins.

Now i stopped at the halfway mark to fill up my drinks bottle and grab a banana.. and have a pee...total time less than 10 mins (had to que to get the Banana).

I hear other riders saying they completed the ride in some 4hrs + but they look way fitter than me, im wondering if most ppl add the stopping time to their total time? or just the "time on road"

Most bike computers give a travelling time (so that doesn't include stopped at traffic lights, etc) I think most people quote that.

Yes, I count the time I'm actually riding, to work out my average speed. Extra time on a long ride may add up to hours, with tea and cake stops - that's just my style of cycling.

I only record riding time too and as a rule never stop for breaks. But be aware that if you do a timed event, the official clocks do not stop, so rest breaks at are your own peril.

That's interesting, seems odd to compare a time where someone has stopped 3 times for say 30 mins againsit a time where someone had no stops...?

I use the computer set to auto start/stop to give time & avarage speed when actually moving. I like to stop for photos and map reading if i'm out exploring.

Mrs LFG counts time out of the house as ride time. Sometimes there are large disparities, depending on cafe/pub stops.;)

Its logical to include to stoppage time as in an ideal world nobody would slow or stop at traffic lights/junctions if they are trying to do a route faster. If you do stop for a pint or cake etc then I would count this as a break as your unmounting the bike for some time.

If you drop your water carrier or need to check over the bike then its not counted as a stop, however I wouldn't be so worried about what others think and do what you have to do.

In Sportives it's time from start to finish. People will quote 'rolling time' and overall time.

Not really worth stopping for long on a 'big' ride, as your muscles get stiff and cold.
