Getting faster, very slowly
Hi

I bought a (1982?) Rossin frame with an OLN of 126mm. I was trying to choose between an all original rebuild or a single speed rebuild, but I've now decided to add a modern (ish) Campag groupset, partly to avoid using downtube shifters. I have a spare Veloce 10 speed cassette and crankset, and was wondering if they'd fit the bike? If not, what would be the best Campag option?
The frame appears half way down the page here: http://rossinproject.blogspot.com/ and I'm having it resprayed - and have sourced replacement decals.

Thanks!

People tell tales involving dire warnigs of frame failure if you coldset a 126mm frame to 130mm in any other way then gradualy doing so over weeks with a home made jig, largely it's cods.

It will handle 2mm of flex no problem, Surly for instance even offer one of their steel frames in a half way house OLN of about 132mm-ish IIRC so it will accept both 135mm and 130mm hubs.

Everything else such as the shifters and crankset should drop on fine providing the frame is prepped corroctly - just excercise caution if you use an external BB as the BB shell will need facing, the cable stops on the down tube just bolt onto the existing bosses.

It's also worth checking if the rear drilling of the frame will accept a modern DP brake cap-socket - if not get it drilled out to fit before the respray.

It will all depend on the threading of the BB shell...

Thanks Zoiders, I'd better get the frame looked at re the DP brake cap-socket - have no idea what that is
So if I'm looking for a 130mm hub, will that take a Veloce 10 spd?
My crankset comes with the bottom bracket attached, although the frame already has a bottom bracket. I'm assuming I'd be better using the newer BB?

If you read the "mounting recessed-mounting calipers on older frames" section here, you might find that with your brakes you don't need to drill your frame/fork at all. I have used Sheldon's option 1 for rear and 3 for front with no issue.

Campag 130mm freehubs will take Veloce 10 speed cassettes. You might well be able to just spring the rear dropouts out to install the 130mm wheel, it is a little harder than usual, but should be possible.
