well since I bought my bike recently it's encouraged my dad to get back on his bike. All well and good you may say, however, he is 77, had a spinal laminectomy a couple of years ago, a plastic left knee last year and the right knee due to be replaced eventually. ok he's not going to win the Tour or any gold medals but 10 points for trying?

Good on him!

He'd probably enjoy it if (it was possible/practical) you joined him for a jaunt!

tandem idea is great but he has a bit of trouble getting his leg over (well, he is 77!:biggrin:) He's got a small wheeled Ridgeback folder - I've got a .3gp video taken on my camera phone but no idea how to post it.

Postman said he'd met someone who was 88 on a recent ride when I met him (obviously told a better story).

When I was in my twenties (oh, how long ago that seems now!), commuting 45 miles a day and riding audax events at weekends, I remember being left for dead by a bloke who must have been in his seventies. Now, I'd expect nothing less, but then I was built like a racing whippet and was pretty fast. Good for your dad, Shimano!

I was feeling pretty sorry for myself when i had knee surgery a couple of years ago, thinking I wouldn't be as good as I was (which is true) when the physiotherapist told me about his father, early 70's who had just had his second knee joint replacement. And he's still cycling.
