I am going to buy a turbo and an experienced friend says I should get an old back wheel to use with it as they "wreck" wheels.
Unfortunately I can't find a 2nd hand one - locally or fleabay, with a 10spd freehub and a cheapy new one is still about £50.
I can see why a turbo wrecks the tyre, but how does it wreck the wheel?

All advice much appreciated:laugh:

I agree, continual and regular use will not be good for a normal road tyre. But, I do not think there is any risk to the wheel per se. I am fortunate and had a spare wheel following an upgrade a few years ago.

TBH, if set up correctly, you'll not wreck a road tyre - but that's on the older fan turbo trainers - the ones that are so loud, you ride it in the garage........
