Old tyres and tube advice

Recently purchased an old bike. The tyres are old school Schwalbe Marathon tyres but they say 622 on the side and the inner tubes appear to have woods/dunlop valves.

My questions are:
Is a 622 tyre the same as 700c? Can I replace these with a modern 700c tyre.
If I but new tubes can I get any valve type?

Thanks

Yes & Yes

Match the valve type to the hole diameter in the rim.
IIRC Woods valves are similar diameter to Schrader. I believe washers are available to convert larger hole rims for use with Presta valves, but I've never seen or used one

I'm a new member perhaps hoping to get some more advice on this theme. I'm changing my Gazelle tyres with Woods inners to Schwalbe Marathons and I want to be able to use a portable pressure gauge, which normally means Presta inners. Of course, the holes in the Woods rims are bigger and I don't want to drill another smaller hole for Prestas.

I'd love to know where these adapter washers can be got. Otherwise, has anyone got round this problem, perhaps by using a Presta screw collar inside the rim as well as one outside? Alternatively, if anyone knows of a portable pressure gauge (not one incorporated in a pump of any sort) which handles Woods, then I'd love to hear of it!

Cheers.

Welcome to the forum.

For all those fiddly little bits & pieces that are hard to find SJS usually have the answer. BUT their postal charges are really annoying on small orders.

Thanks for welcome and for that info; I'll get prospecting (already been through the Weldtite PDF catalogue-no result). You're right about the SJS postage charges - plus I have something on order from them at the moment! S**s law in operation, I reckon.

Spot on Porkypete! SJS have something called Stem Savers made by the US firm Wheels Manufacturing, actually meant for Presta-Shraeder compatibility, but will do for Woods as well. Good value at 99p per pair - shame about the £2.50 postage!
A bit of Googling turned up another possible but less elegant solution, which is to put a thin washer (a close fit to the Presta stem) inside the rim and under the rim tape, then pass the stem through that.
Cheers

Why not just use Schraeder tubes. They fit the Woods rim holes and there are plenty of pressure gauges that fit them?

No especially rational reason not to, really. It's just that I have a preponderance of Prestas with associated pumps and gauges, so I'm looking for a bit of consistency. I plan to replace all the other Woods on old Raleighs etc. to a common Presta standard, and fix one bugbear which has Woods one end and Schraeder the other.

Also I feel that it's easier to get and keep the high pressures needed for some tyres by using Prestas. Of course, that's my almost entirely subjective opinion!
